For many people, especially those of color, weâre taught never to show our underbelly - never to move forward with anything until itâs perfect. Itâs almost ingrained in us to wait for perfection before we make a move, which, in reality, only results in delays and sometimes even forfeitures. So how can we get out of our own way and stop waiting for perfection?
In this episode, author and award-winning journalist L'Oreal Thompson Payton gets triggered as she talks about what it means to wait for perfect, how it affects us, how it shows up in our lives, and what we can do about it. From her fertility journey to COVID lockdowns to writing her first book, tune in as LâOreal shares her experiences with perfectionism, and when it hurt her as well as served her.
KEY POINTS:
QUOTABLES:
âYou can't control life. You can do your best, and you can show up, and you can try again. But you can't be perfect all the time. Nor should you.â - L'Oreal Thompson Payton
âPerfect is the enemy of good. As Black women, we have been conditioned from the womb to work twice as hard to get half as much.â - L'Oreal Thompson Payton

I absolutely love this show. The topics are very thought provoking and inspiring. After each episode I walked away with a deep question to self-examine and make an effort to do the work. Keep shining ladies. I am so proud đđâ¤ď¸
I appreciate the rawness and transparency. Your authenticity is much needed and appreciated. Itâs good to acknowledge our triggers and talk them through. Absolutely love it!!!
I loved Dani views of this topic because I grew up in church also , but as an adult I figured out for myself that we truly should have a relationship with God and I listen to Mike Todd a preacher from Tulsa and he also states same thing. Belief and relationship with God doesnât require rituals or any of that. I donât let anything that Iâve seen in the church sway me from my belief in God. I believe in God not man or a religion. God does want us to fellowship with others but God is everywhere! I turn on my worship music all the time at home, in the car etc. it doesnât require us to be in church because we can have church anywhere
